HEAVY HORSE & COUNTRY SHOW
19th and 20th 2012
BLUE ANCHOR SHOWGROUND, BLINDLEY HEATH, RH7 6JJ
The Heavy Horse and Country Show on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th May, one of the biggest Heavy and Working Horse shows in the South East, takes place at the Blue Anchor Showground RH7 6JJ on the A22 in Blindley Heath. This year’s show is shaping up to be the best yet, with a fully packed programme over the 2 days.
Saturday sees the Magnificent Working Heavy Horses demonstrating their skills. See the sheer muscle power of these gentle giants as they plough and harrow the land, using traditional techniques. Their agility will also be put to the test in exciting timed trials, where horses pulling harrows weave through hazards and obstacles to compete to be the fastest.
Sunday is showing day, where the Horses get dressed up in their finery. The day includes: In hand, Driven and Ridden Classes. The Mare and Foal class is always popular with visitors, giving them a chance to see the progression from foals to fully grown horses. The Young Handlers class gives handlers aged 13 to 18 a chance to show off their skills. The Trade and Agricultural turnouts include: Brewery Dray, Wagons and Tip Carts. All the class winners will then compete for the Supreme Champion of the show, followed by a final Grand Parade of all the exhibits – you’ll be amazed at the number of Heavy Horses in one show ring.
There is also plenty of entertainment for your canine chums. The very popular companion dog show with pedigree and novelty classes takes place on Sunday afternoon, with entries being taken from 12 noon onwards. Over the two days there will be Gundog displays with on the spot tutorials as well as Agility demonstrations and “have a go” sessions. So bring your dogs along to join in the fun.
There will also be Vintage Farm Machinery, Military vehicles and Classic car displays and parades. Other demonstrations include: Beekeeping, Blacksmithing and Trug & Walking stick making. Also there are heavy horse dray rides, fairground rides, refreshments and Trade Stands. There is truly something for everyone!
Tickets are just £5 with children under 16 years and parking free of charge. The Show opens at 9 am each day.
